    Bala Manian, Ph.D.

    Dr. Bala Manian is a serial entrepreneur and a well known scientist based at Silicon valley, CA USA. Dr. Bala Manian recently founded Reametrix, Inc., having operations at San Carlos, CA, USA and Banglore, India. ReaMetrix funds product development on various technology platforms in return for a share of the product revenues. ReaMetrix develops applications on existing, proven platforms. By selecting appropriate opportunities, generates proprietary reagent products for sale to the research community. ReaMetrix has manufacturing capacity in India leveraging a global partnership. Dr. Manian holds more than 30 patents, many of which have resulted in successful commercial products. Additionally, Dr. Manian has authored more than 35 scientific publications. He has a B.S. in Physics from the University of Madras, an M.S in Applied Optics from the University of Rochester, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He was a faculty member at the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics. Dr. Manian founded Lumisys and Molecular Dynamics. Both Lumisys (LUMI) and Molecular Dynamics (MDYN) went public on the NASDAQ before their acquisition by Eastman Kodak and Amersham Pharmacia Biotech and then by GE respectively. Dr. Manian is involved with Galileo Laboratories, Surromed, Q DOT Corporation, and Entigen. He was the founder-chairman of Biometric Imaging Inc, which was acquired by medical device giant Becton Dickinson & Co. Prior to founding Biometric Imaging, Dr. Manian founded Digital Optics Corp, an optical instrumentation and systems development company that was acquired by Matrix Corp. An expert in the design of electro-optical systems. Dr. Manian has been recognized by the award of an "Academy Certificate" from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for inventing the special effects technology used in movies like "Return of the Jedi" and the Indiana Jones Trilogy. The technology developed by Bala Manian, David DiFrancesco and Thomas Noggle, at Digital Optics Corp., and transferred to Lucas film Ltd. in 1983, allowed filmmakers to insert special effects into movies using computerized digital imaging. This was a considerable improvement over existing technology, which involved an expensive and painstaking procedure whereby two different sets of images, almost two movies, had to be created and combined to achieve the same special effects.

    Mikael Kubista Ph. D.

    Dr. Mikael Kubista is professor at Chalmers University in Sweden and head of R&D at the TATAA Biocenter. He was among the pioneers working with real-time PCR technology and contributed by developing the LightUp probes used in infectious disease testing and the BEBO dyes, which are alternatives to SYBR Green for non-specific detection. He also pioneered the field of single cell expression profiling, which was highlighted in Nature Reviews of Genetics. Recently Dr. Kubista published the review: The Real-time PCR Reaction in Molecular Aspects of Medicine. Dr. Kubista is scientific advisor to several companies developing real-time PCR technology and applications based on real-time PCR. In 2001 Dr. Kubista founded the TATAA Biocenters, which today are the leading providers of real-time PCR services in Scandinavia and Central Europe.

    Dr. Narayan Raju holds citizenship of Fiji and United States. He has done B.Sc., Biological Science from Osmania University, India in 1971 and B.V.Sc (DVM)., Veterinary Sciences from Andhra Agricultural University, India in 1976.     M.W. Pandit, Ph.D.

    Dr. Madhusudan W. Pandit is a scientist by profession, Worked with scientific institutions such as NCL, Pune, RRL, IICT and CCMB, Hyderabad and NAL, Banglore. Dr. Pandit helped establishing the Centre for DNA fingerprinting and Diagnostics(CDFD), an autonomous center of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. At Present Dr. Pandit working as a consultant to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) on a project " Laboratory for the conservation of Endangered Species(LaCONES). Dr. Pandit helping CCMB to upgrade and maintain the bioinformatics facility at CCMB including networks such as internet and intranet.

    Dr. Pandit involved in establishing the Distributed Information Centre at CCMB as a part of Biotechnology Information System. Involved in development of Informatics center at CCMB to current level. Served as member of the task force for bioingormatics for many years and his research contributions using bioinformatic tools are reflected in several publications. Dr. Pandit is responsible in establishing EMBnet node of India, a computer network which is established by 35 countries at Hyderabad. Served as nodal manager of EMBnet for a couple of years.

    P.N. Avdhani, Ph.D.

    P N Avadhani, has done B.Sc (Honours) in 1952 & M.Sc in 1953 ( Botany) from Andhra University, India. He has obtained Ph.D in 1957 (Plant Physiology) from Durham University, U K and did Post Doctoral between 1958-60 (Plant Biochemistry) McGill University, Canada.

    Dr. Avadhani has about 38 years of Research Experience mostly at the National University of Singapore. Worked in several institutions for short periods in different parts of the world under sabbatical visiting appointments and study visits on a regular basis. The se include Universities and research institutions in the UK, the USA, France, Germany and Australia.

    Dr. Avadhani Supervised several Honours, Masters and Doctoral theses, Published about 70 papers in scientific journals and edited books, Attended many International conferences. He also worked as Visiting Professor at Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, India. Currently he is working as a principal partner of a consultancy under the name of Dhani & Associates. He worked as a consultant to several institutions and organizations both during service and retirement for specific projects as well as general consultancy in a wide rage of fields including biology, management and IT.

He worked as Post doctoral fellow at Southern Illinois University Springfield, IL, on Alzimers disease and its prevention. He worked as assistant professor in Pharmacology and toxicology division at St. Louis university doing research on Bladder cancer and metabolic studies. He has worked as Associate professor at the same university discovering metabolic pathways of carcinogens. He has developed several methods to be used for invitro techniques. Dr. Satram has about 30 papers published in scientific journals and attended many International conferences.

      Appa Rao Podile, Ph.D.

      Dr. Appa Rao Podile has obtained M. Sc(Botany) and PHD (Botany) from Sardar Patel University in 1983 and 1986 respectively. Dr. Podile is serving as Reader, Department of Plant Sciences in School of Life Sciences, at University of Hyderabad from Jan 1999. Dr. Podile has 34 research publications from 1985.
